Lesson 1: Sex and Sexuality: What is it?


  • Develop agreements and expectations for creating a safe and comfortable class climate

  • Review the structure and function of the male and female reproductive systems and explain conception (sexual intercourse, artificial insemination)

  • Explain the difference between a bacterial and a viral STI

Lesson 2: Relationship with Self & Others


  • Identify the importance of self respect and setting personal boundaries
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal communication skills to communicate one’s boundaries   
  • Identify the types of positive, and potentially negative, relationships that students may have during their lifetime
  • Explain the qualities of a healthy, unhealthy, or abusive relationship with self and others

  • Identify the qualities that students look for in a (friend or romantic partner or intimate relationship)

Lesson 3: Intimate Relationships: Attraction, Sexual Behavior & Potential Consequences


  • Identify the short-term and long-term emotional, social, and physical consequences of engaging in sexually-related behavior
  • Analyze the benefits of postponing sexual behavior
  • Identify the emotional/physical feelings of attraction that teenagers experience

Lesson 4: Intimate Relationships: Setting Boundaries and Identifying Risks


  • Identify the potential short and long-term consequences of engaging in sexually-related behaviors


  • Distinguish between healthy and unhealthy alternatives to health-related issues or problems
