It's almost Memorial Day...has your high school student made any plans? Click here to learn about Needham Community Education's POPULAR NHS SUMMER COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM. Your high school student will make a difference by performing valuable services for selected urban non-profit organizations, and earn one community classroom credit in the process. REGISTER BY MAY 29 in person at NCE, by fax or by mail.
NCE’s Summer Community Service program, for NHS students entering grades 10-12, sends teams of students and a faculty leader to participate in weeklong volunteer activities in Boston and Cambridge the weeks of 7/8, 7/15, 7/22 and 7/29. Each program is approximately 6-7 hours a day, including travel time. Placement options include: the New England Center for Homeless Veterans, the Women’s Lunch Place and Room to Grow, the American Red Cross, and a public art project.
The faculty leader will escort the team members from the Needham Center train station to the volunteer site, using public transportation and walking; and they will supervise the team throughout the day. The leader will also educate the volunteers on the mission of the organization and the cause it addresses. When time allows, each volunteer team may explore areas in and out of the city that relate to the volunteer placement.
The program $260 program fee covers the cost of the faculty member. Participants will be responsible for the cost of transportation and lunch.
