Kindergarten

In kindergarten students build on early experiences observing the world around them and start to make observations that are more quantitative in nature to help them identify why some changes occur.

UNIT 1: Properties in our Community In this unit students continue to develop their observation skills, recognizing and describing properties of materials and begin to understand how temperature affects solids and liquids.

UNIT 2: Plants and Animals In this unit students endeavor to recognize and describe living things using growing vocabulary. They also begin to identify reasons for changes in some common phenomena. UNIT 3: Construction People construct; one of the defining characteristics of humanity is that we make. We make structures, institutions, rules, ideas, and works of art. Kindergartners are also makers. In this unit children will experiment with structures, movement, and balance. UNIT 4: Our Earth
