Summer Explorations High School Volunteer Program

We hope you will consider volunteering with us in summer 2020! We will begin taking applications for 2020 volunteers in early February.

Volunteer Teaching Assistants for the Needham Community Education Summer Explorations Program

Each year Summer Explorations seeks Needham students in grades 9–11, who enjoy working with children, to serve as Volunteer Teaching Assistants in our program. Summer Explorations is comprised of over 90, half-day enrichment classes, for students entering grades 1–9. There are classes in science, sports, cooking, engineering, fine and performing arts, culture and technology. All classes are taught by Needham Public Schools staff members and other trained education professionals. The weeklong classes are offered Monday–Friday, between June 29th and July 24th (no classes 7/3).

Volunteers are needed for 3.25 hours/day, mornings and/or afternoons, for a full week. If you volunteer in the mornings or afternoons for 2 weeks or for the morning AND the afternoon of one week, you will earn one Community Service credit.

Summer Explorations Volunteer Teaching Assistant responsibilities include:
— Assisting with student drop-off and pick-up
— Helping out in one of the classes
— Act as a positive role model for Summer Explorations participants
