Private Instruction

2016-17 Private Music Instruction Registration Information

The Needham Public Schools offer a comprehensive program of private instruction for beginners through advanced music students. The Needham music staff encourages all students to study privately if possible. The benefits are many; an improved level of individual performance translates into greater achievement in school ensembles, increased opportunities through recitals and select groups, and most importantly, increased enjoyment and self-satisfaction on the part of the students. Private instruction is available to any student on the following instruments: flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe, trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba, percussion, violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar and voice.

Weekly 30 minute lessons take place at the middle school, Needham High school, and one of the elementary schools after regular school hours.  All private music instructors are professional musicians and music educators whose work is evaluated on a regular basis.   Since our private instructors depend on these lessons for a major portion of their income we ask families to commit to all lessons when registering. No refunds can be made for missed lessons. Thirty day written notice is requiredfor withdrawal from the program. Without these policies, it is impossible to secure quality instructorsfor our students.

Lessons are split into two semesters, 16 lessons each. They will begin the week of September 5th and run through May 19th. (Needed makeup lessons or optional supplementary lessons and/or recitals will run from May 22nd through June and are setup individually by each instructor.) Actual scheduling of lessons will be done in consultation with each private instructor.

(45 minute or 60 minute lessons can be arranged individually with instructors with payment adjusted accordingly.)

Step by Step Guide to Sign Up for Lessons:

Go to the webpage and select a teacher, or teachers to contact:
Click on ‚ÄúPrivate Instruction‚ÄĚ then follow the links to ‚Äúinstructors‚ÄĚ to find a teacher.
Contact a teacher directly to schedule lesson days and times.  Not all teachers are available all days and some will have limited openings due to returning students.  The earlier you do this, the better the odds are for available times/days.

If you cannot find a teacher and would like help, or no teacher is listed for your instrument, indicate this on the registration form and send it in with your payment.  (Your check will not be processed until we have arranged a lesson teacher for you.)

¬†Fill out the enclosed registration form and send it along with your payment (checks payable to ‚ÄúNeedham Public Schools‚ÄĚ) to ‚ÄúPrivate Lesson Registration, Fine/Performing Arts Office, Needham High School, 609
Webster St. Needham, MA 02494

VERY IMPORTANT--No lessons can begin and your private teacher can’t be paid until this form and the first payment is received.
******  NOTE: Payments can also be made online usingMySchoolBucks.com.

Once your registration form/payment has been sent in, let the private instructor know so that lessons can begin. The teacher will receive a printout of all registered students each week in September and monthly thereafter to confirm your registration. For lessons to begin September 8th, registrations should be in by September 1st.

Lessons may begin as soon as we receive the registration form with payment. If you are registering after the start of lessons (Sept. 5th) be certain to speak to the teacher to see if all 1st semester lessons will still be possible.   If you have any questions regarding the program, please contact the Fine & Performing Arts office at (781) 455-0800 ext. 2440.

NOW, GO TO THE WEB, CHECK THE LIST OF TEACHERS, CONTACT YOUR TEACHER, MAKE ARRANGEMENTS AND SEND IN THE REGISTRATION FORM.
